A 50-year-old man was beaten in the parking lot of a Vancouver motel by three teenagers as they stole his vehicle Tuesday evening, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Officers were dispatched around 7:15 p.m. to the robbery at the Motel 6 at 221 N.E. Chkalov Drive. They learned that three boys under the age of 18 had approached the man while he was in his vehicle, demanded his keys, and beat him until the man gave them his keys, police said.

Then all three got into his vehicle while the victim was still inside. The man jumped out of the vehicle while the suspects drove away, police said. He was treated at the scene for injuries that were not life threatening.

Not soon after driving off, the stolen vehicle flipped over at the intersection of Northeast 124th Avenue and Eighth Street, and three boys were seen running from the scene, police said.

Vancouver officers and deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office set up a containment area, and police found and arrested two boys, ages 15 and 16, on suspicion of first-degree robbery. They were taken to the county’s juvenile detention center.

The third suspect was not found, but the police said they will continue to investigate the robbery.
