Vancouver — The city of Vancouver is seeking nominations for exemplary volunteers who have made meaningful improvements to growing or maintaining the city’s urban forest.

Nomination information and submission forms for Vancouver Urban Forestry’s 2016 Mac Award are available online at www.cityofvancouver.us/urbanforestry or by calling 360-487-8308. The deadline for entries is March 15.

The annual Mac Awards will be presented during the city’s Arbor Day celebration at noon April 13 at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way.

Established in 2010, the award is named for the late Gordon MacWilliams, a former urban forestry commissioner, in honor of his strong commitment to tree stewardship and community service. Past awards have gone to those who have organized tree-planting projects, taught others about the benefits of trees, preserved trees during development, donated time and/or money to advance the Urban Forestry program’s mission, developed creative partnerships in community forestry and more.

Vancouver Urban Forestry, part of the city’s Department of Public Works, recognizes trees as a valuable community asset and an important component of managing stormwater.

For more information, call 360-487-8308 or email urbanforestry@cityofvancouver.us.
