Gause Elementary School Principal Rex Larson will retire at the end of this school year, ending a four-decade career in education.

Larson, who has been principal at Gause for 19 years, started out as a teacher in Evergreen Public Schools for two years before working for the Beaverton and Oregon City school districts in Oregon. His retirement is effective June 30.

While in charge, Larson oversaw growth at Gause, as the school changed to a full elementary school after serving only third- through fifth-graders, and the student population increased from 400 to 600. In a release from the district, Larson said he plans to spend more time with children, grandchildren and dogs.
