A teenage boy was hospitalized Tuesday after falling from a moving vehicle, La Center Police Chief Marc Denney said.

Denney said the boy apparently was playing around when he tried to climb onto the hood of a slow-moving pickup at around 3:30 p.m. in the overflow parking lot across the street from Holly Park. Somehow, Denney said, the boy’s foot became caught, causing him to fall on his head.

Information about the extent of the boy’s injuries was unavailable, but Denney said they included a fairly serious head injury.

Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy said the boy was taken by ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

La Center police, along with traffic investigators from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, are investigating. Denney said they’re working to determine whether the driver would be liable.

It didn’t appear that the driver of the truck, another teenage boy, knew what was going on when the boy was hurt, Denney said.

“It was just an unfortunate incident where the kid was playing around,” Denney said.
