A man accused of striking a Clark College security officer with his vehicle as he fled the scene of an alleged vehicle prowl made a first appearance Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court.

Rickey Joe Miler Jr., 28, address unknown, appeared on suspicion of second-degree assault and second-degree vehicle prowl in connection with the Jan. 26 incident.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Miler allegedly stole a wallet, laptop and other property from a car parked in the west parking lot at Clark College, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way in Vancouver. A college security officer, Damon Grady, confronted Miler at about 12:35 p.m. as Miler held an armful of stolen property, court records said.

Miler dumped the property on the hood of the car, entered his own vehicle and attempted to drive away, the affidavit said. While trying to flee, he struck Grady in the right thigh with his vehicle and sped off through the parking lot, court records said. He was not immediately located.

On Tuesday, Judge Daniel Stahnke appointed Jeffrey Riback to represent Miler and set his bail at $15,000.

Miler will be arraigned Feb. 26.
