The Panthers turned tough defense and solid rebounding into the offensive spark they needed to beat R.A. Long in a loser-out game of the 2A district tournament.
Washougal advances to play Woodland in another loser-out game on Thursday.
“We played a great defense,” Washougal coach Malcolm Estes said. “In the second half, we outscored them 24-12, and that was predicated off our offense. We didn’t shoot the ball well. But we played good defense. Collin Prangley got some rebounds, pushed the ball upcourt and fed some teammates for some transitions baskets.”
Eight of Washougal’s 13 fourth-quarter points came off transition plays.
R.A. Long’s Marcus Maryott had eight points in the first quarter, but was shut out the rest of the game.
Matt Rotundo had 10 points and nine rebounds, Prangley had eight rebounds and Josh Bischoff and Curtis Crosby had six each.
