In case you missed it, here are some of the top stories of the week:
Gov. Jay Inslee kicked off a press conference Monday listing a number of tasks still facing state lawmakers: approving a state budget, addressing public school funding, boosting mental health services.
Then he quickly transitioned into a forceful attack on Senate Republicans for their surprise move Friday firing the head of the state’s Department of Transportation.

As the judge handed down his 20-month sentence in Tanya Leffler’s drug-distribution case, he said it was “very difficult” for him to follow the attorneys’ previously agreed-upon recommendation.
“You are so lucky to get this sentence,” Clark County Superior Court Judge Gregory Gonzales told Leffler.
Gonzales ordered that the sentence run concurrent with Leffler’s 93-month vehicular homicide sentence — meaning she did not receive any additional time.

Over the past month and a half, Kelsey Bergerson has seen 10 chickens vanish from her nearly 6-acre property northeast of Washougal.
At first she thought it was a big hawk preying on the chickens, until four lambs came up missing.
Then, on Sunday, her alpaca Elliott was found dead with what she said were obvious signs of a cougar attack. The next day, she and her husband found a full-grown sheep dead, with bite marks on its jaw and throat.

U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s “miracle baby” received a kidney transplant, the Congresswoman announced in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Abigail Beutler was born three months premature and without kidneys. She weighed 2 pounds, 12 ounces. She was the first baby to survive Bilateral Renal Agenesis, commonly referred to as Potter’s sequence, or syndrome, Herrera Beutler said. Abigail’s survival of the often-fatal syndrome garnered national attention.

Voters in six Clark County school districts have approved three-year levies to pay for teachers, staff, supplies and activities, according to a first round of election results released Tuesday night.
The replacement levies were on the ballot in Evergreen, Vancouver, Ridgefield, Green Mountain, Hockinson and La Center. Voters in Camas were narrowly favoring a proposed bond to construct new school facilities (see separate story).
