A 27-year-old Vancouver woman was cited after her car crashed head-on with a school bus Wednesday morning, according to Vancouver Police Department Lt. Kathy McNicholas.

Police cited Kayla M. Booth for second-degree negligent driving. They say she was distracted by her cellphone, causing the crash, McNicholas said.

Police officers, fire officials and medical personnel responded to the collision, reported near Minnehaha Elementary School in the 2800 block of Northeast 54th Street at about 8:40 a.m., according to the Vancouver Police Department. No children were seriously injured.

McNicholas said that Booth was behind the wheel of a blue Nissan Versa traveling on Northeast 54th Street when the vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and struck the bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The bus was loaded with 53 children, and only one of them suffered a minor injury, which police described as a scrape.

Booth was taken to a local hospital after complaining of injuries that police described as not life-threatening.
