Mount Hood Meadows will have four-hour Fat Bike Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the ski area.

Fat bikes are modified mountain bikes with tires twice as wide as normal to provide traction on surfaces like sand and snow.

A Hood River, Ore., cycling shop will provide fat bikes for demonstration rides. A course will be set up in the Yellow Meadow area near the North Lodge.

Advance registration is recommended, but not required, to assure a chance to ride a fat bike for free.

To register, go online to www.skihood.com/fatbike.
