Kylie Weaver of Union gymnastics was voted The Columbian’s high school winter sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Jan. 30.

Weaver collected 43 percent of the 6, 255 votes cast by fans to beat out Kirsten Johnson of Skyview girls basketball, who had 24 percent.

Weaver won the vault and floor exercise and had an all-around score of 34.9 in a four-team meet at Northpointe last week.

The other nominees were Eric Wu of Camas swimming, Becca Gunderson of Columbia River bowling and Michael Stockbridge of Prairie boys basketball.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
