Keeley Nordberg’s perimeter shooting helped visiting Hockinson erase an early 13-point deficit on Monday in a 53-42 girls basketball win at Washougal.

Nordberg made five 3-pointers, several of them with the shot clock expiring, on her way to a game-high 19 points.

The result knocked Washougal out of a share of first place in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League. The Panthers (14-4, 8-2) can regain a share of first place with a Thursday win against Mark Morris.

Hockinson (9-9, 7-3) is third in the standings.

Washougal led 20-9 in the second quarter before Hockinson closed the first half on a 16-0 run that included two of Nordberg’s 3-pointers. The momentum continued into the third quarter as the Hawks built the 11-point lead that would be the final margin.

Washougal coach Brian Oberg said his team played solid defense — including some good defending by Sierra Carroll and Alissa Lenczowski — but that Hockinson was patient in its offense and hit big shots. The Panthers, by contrast, made only 11 field goals on the night.

Payton Wangler finished with 11 points for Hockinson and Hannah Neibauer scored nine points.

For Washougal, Beyonce Bea had 15 points and nine rebounds and RaeAnn Allen 15 points and eight rebounds.
