Monday was mostly dry for the after-Christmas sales and, of course, exchanges. As clouds increased in the late afternoon it sure looked like a snow sky. However there was too much warm air aloft for snow. But, as I was writing this column, there were reports of a few snowflakes and ice pellets. Rain was forecast for overnight with a few showers today.
Early Monday morning Vancouver dipped to a chilly 27 degrees for the low temperature. Had the clouds and moisture arrived then we may have had a couple hours of a wintry mix. We may have to deal with that in the upcoming days.
After we get rid of the lingering moisture today, Wednesday and Thursday appear dry with seasonal temperatures. When you think of New Year’s and the month of January, one can usually envision the chill that can be present in this cold winter month.
Looking at the longer-range forecast models, they mostly agree that an arctic air mass will slide down over us and bring chilly temperatures and perhaps some snow as it passes through. Then we have to keep a wary weather eye out for later with a transitional event.
