Battle Ground — The Battle Ground Police Department hosted its third annual Shop with a Cop event at Wal-Mart on Dec. 10, where eight police officers teamed up with 12 students to let the kids shop for gifts for themselves and family members.

The students, who were nominated by school staff, met the officers at the police station and rode in patrol cars in a motorcade to the store.

The kids were all given $200 to shop, which the department received through a $2,500 Wal-Mart Community Grant.

“These kids are deserving and our officers appreciate the opportunity to further build relationships with the public we serve,” Chief Bob Richardson said in a news release from the city.
