J.D. Power: PDX leads in customer satisfactions

PORTLAND — Travelers still love to fly through Portland International Airport, according to new survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates.

The airport ranked No. 1 in customer satisfaction among large airports for the second year in a row, according to the survey results released Thursday.

PDX scored highly for being easy for travelers to get to, as well as for its check-in processes and baggage handling. It was also singled out for incorporating local flavor into its architectural design.

“Portland International Airport has incorporated regional designs and symbols in the flooring. The color schemes and storefronts make the airport feel unique to Oregon and the Northwest,” said Michael Taylor, director of the airport practice at J.D. Power.

Its score, however, fell slightly from 791 last year to 786 this year. Airports are ranked on a 1,000-point scale. Tampa International Airport ranked second with 775 points, and Las Vegas McCarran Airport ranked third with 759.

Generally, the survey found that airports are improving in customer satisfaction, despite growing crowds and renovation work underway at airports across the country. (PDX has been renovating near its security checkpoints and will start a major concourse renovation next year.)
