Forecasters at the National Weather Service are advising that heavy rainfall expected to last tonight through Tuesday afternoon, combined with melting runoff from previous snowfall, could mean minor flooding for the region.

The weather service in Portland said rain, heavy at times, will move across the Coast Range mountains and into the the lower Columbia River, including southwest Washington, over the forecast period.

The rain and snowmelt will result in rises in rivers, streams and creeks in some parts of the forecast area, and localized urban flooding is also possible, forecasters say.

The heaviest rain is expected tonight.

The rivers that concern forecasts most are those draining the east and west slopes of the Coast Range and Johnson Creek in the Portland area. Landslides are also possible, forecaster warn.

Tonight in Vancouver, new rainfall amounts of three-quarters of an inch to an inch are expected. For Tuesday, precipitation amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are possible.
