A rollover crash in the Fern Prairie area north of Camas left one person dead Saturday evening. Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be contributing factors, according to sheriff’s deputies.
The crash was reported at 8:08 p.m. in the 3400 block of Northeast Cavitt Road. According to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, there were two people in the vehicle when it rolled over. One of the occupants, believed to be the passenger, died at the scene. The other, believed to be the driver, crawled from the wreckage. The driver was injured and was to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
Roads were reported to be very icy in the area, with temperatures near freezing at the time the crash was reported. Cavitt Road in the vicinity of the accident is steep and narrow, with several corners and plenty of shade from big fir trees growing near the road.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office traffic unit was called to investigate the incident. East County Fire and Rescue responded and aided the injured driver.
