Clark tops Skagit Valley for fourth win in a row

Jordan Berni scored 16 points to lead five Clark College players in double figures as the Penguins men’s basketball team defeated Skagit Valley 91-81 on Saturday at the O’Connell Sports Center in Vancouver.

The win was Clark’s fourth in a row and second straight since coach Alex Kirk stepped down this week for family reasons.

Michael Hill, Ozzie George and Ty Cleland each scored 14 points, and Luke Osborn had 10.

Clark (5-2) outrebounded Skagit Valley 37-24. Hill and George each had nine rebounds to lead the Penguins.

Clark led 50-40 at halftime.

Skagit Valley (4-3) was led by Marquis Gurske and Ben Ayre with 15 points each.

The Penguins conclude their three-day crossover tournament by playing Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., at 2 p.m. Sunday at the O’Connell Center.

WOMEN: Clark 59, Edmonds 34 — Kendyl Cone had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds plus four assists as the Penguins (3-5) won at the Wenatchee Valley crossover.

Clark forced 27 turnovers to keep Edmonds winless at 0-8.

The Penguins had a balanced scoring effort with Mailia Aguigui and Elliott Snodgrass adding nine points each.

Clark concludes play at the crossover today against host Wentachee Valley.
