Michael Hill scored 23 points as the Clark College men’s basketball team beat Tacoma 72-70 Friday at O’Connell Sports Center.

It was Clark’s first game since coach Alex Kirk announced he was stepping down for the remainder of the season to attend to a family issue.

“The guys have all been really supportive of Alex,” interim head coach Kevin Johnson said.

Hill also had a team-high 15 rebounds. That allowed Clark to overcome 29 points by Tacoma’s Khalil Thompson.

“He was unguardable at times,” Johnson said of Thompson. “I’m really pleased with how the guys competed tonight.”

Clark (4-2) faces Skagit Valley at noon Saturday in the second game of a three-day crossover tournament the Penguins are hosting. Clark will face Blue Mountain on Sunday.
