Cooper Spur Ski Area opens for season

PARKDALE, Ore. — Cooper Spur Ski Area on the north side of Mount Hood opened for the season today.

Twenty-three miles south of Hood River, Cooper Spur will operate daily from 9 a.m. to  5 p.m. through Jan. 1. The area has 50 acres, served by Homestead chairlift and a beginner rope tow.

Chairlift tickets cost $36 for adults and $30 for juniors (ages 7 to 14) and seniors (age 65 and older). Tickets for youth age 6 and younger are $10.

Rental equipment is available and group lessons are offered daily without needing reservations.

Cooper Spur also has a tubing tow, which is expected to open this weekend. A four-hour tube shift costs $12, including the tube. Those participating must be at least 42 inches tall.

For children shorter than 42 inches, there is a free tubing carousel.

The nordic center at Cooper Spur will open Saturday. The center offers 4 miles of groomed and set track for skating and traditional striding.

The center is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. It rents cross-country ski equipment and snow shoes. Cross-country ski lessons are available.

After the holidays, Cooper Spur will be open 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
