A school bus ride in Woodland was briefly interrupted Tuesday afternoon when the bus driver overheard students discussing guns and bombs.

Woodland Public Schools Superintendent Michael Green wrote a note about it to parents that was posted to the district’s website and social media accounts Tuesday night. A note also was sent home with students on Wednesday.

The driver overheard the conversation between two high school students on their way home from school Tuesday and was concerned for student safety, the note says.

Following protocol, the driver parked the bus and evacuated the students on board. Woodland police officers then responded and inspected the bus, eventually determining that there was no actual threat and that the two students had been joking, Green wrote. Investigators determined no crime was involved and are letting the school district determine disciplinary action, Woodland police officer Jim Keller said.

No decision has been made about what discipline the students will face, school district spokesman Eric Jacobson said.

Green encouraged parents to speak with their children about inappropriate conversations both at school and on school transportation. He also emphasized the importance of sharing with adults information about potentially dangerous situations.
