Wednesday is the four-year anniversary of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. The Clark County branch of a national grass-roots group, Moms Demand Action, will hold a rally that evening in Esther Short Park.
But first, at 9:35 a.m., at least two local churches will ring their bells 27 times in honor of each person killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. St. Luke’s Episcopal and St. James Catholic churches have agreed to participate; other churches are still expected to join in too.
Local businesses are also invited to have a moment of silence — and dim their lights 27 times.
A quiet vigil to honor the 20 schoolchildren who were murdered that day will begin at 6:30 p.m. beneath the bell tower in Esther Short Park. Participants are asked to gather at 6:15 p.m.
According to a statement, Moms Demand Action, which was modeled after Mothers Against Drunk Driving, is a fast-growing group with 3 million member nationwide and 300 members here in Clark County.
