A Vancouver man suspected of intoxicated driving faces charges after he allegedly struck a pedestrian last week, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Robert William Leary, 37, was driving north on Interstate Avenue in Portland at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday when he reportedly struck 23-year-old Ashley Wirth, who was walking in the bike lane against traffic, Portland police reported.

Wirth suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Portland hospital for treatment. Police said she is expected to survive her injuries.

Leary was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of third-degree assault, hit and run, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants, police said.
