La Center Our Days Celebration will keep the small city in north county hopping all weekend.

1. Under the sea

The La Center Our Days Celebration kicks off with its annual Twilight Parade at 8 p.m. Aug. 19, with an Under the Sea theme. Community groups, businesses, bands, cars, horses and more will be aglow during the parade, which travels from La Center High School to East Fourth Street before ending at Fifth Street and Dogwood Avenue in downtown La Center. The parade will be followed by the Our Days Street Dance at 9 p.m. and a screening of “Zootopia” at 9:30 p.m. in Sternwheeler Park, 100 E. Fourth St. The celebration continues from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 with a day of activities, beginning with a 5K Fun Walk/Run at 8 a.m. sponsored by the La Center High School cross country team, with donations encouraged. The annual car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holley Park, 1000 E. Fourth St., La Center, is $10 for car registration. The kid zone is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the park, with the beautiful baby contest at 11 a.m. Entertainment runs throughout the day, with music by Raeann Phillips, Harvest Gold and the Perry Gerber Band. The weekend of festivities wraps up from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 with a performance by Fleetwood Mac tribute band Gold Dust performing at Sternwheeler Park. www.lacenterourdays.com

2. Excuse to explore

The Hough Foundation will host Sip and Stroll, its annual self-guided tour of drinks and delights. Attendees will be given maps to explore 30 participating locations in Uptown Village and downtown Vancouver that will feature wine, beer, cider and spirits to try, along with shopping specials, music and activities. The fundraising event also features a free shuttle driving along the route, with proceeds benefiting the Hough Foundation. The stroll runs 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 20 starting at the Burgerville Center for Responsible Community Leadership, 1602 Main St., Vancouver. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at event. www.houghfoundation.org

3. Fun with cars

The Slo Poks Car Club presents its annual Uptown Village Show and Shine from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Hough Foundation. The event is open to all hot rods, custom cars, bikes, rat rods and collector cars along the streets starting at 22nd and Main streets, Vancouver. The Slo Poks are one of the oldest car clubs in the area and will give out handmade trophies to winners. The event is free for spectators, with $15 per car registration. Or seek out the annual PDX Adult Soap Box Derby, as a group of racers tests their homemade vehicles and their mettle from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 on the slopes of Mount Tabor City Park, Southeast Salmon Street and 60th Avenue, Portland. Attendees can see all sorts of soapbox cars, from the aerodynamically serious to purely comical, with designated spectator seating along the racing route. 4. Canine rock show

Pawchella is a concert for dogs and their owners that benefits the Humane Society for Southwest Washington. “American Idol” finalist Haley Johnson and Nashville recording artist Olivia Lane will perform from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 N.W. Camas Meadows Drive, Camas. Tickets are $5 to $20, with $20 to $25 for a family of four. Dogs get in free, and all pets must be on leashes. 360-833-2000 or www.pawchella.com

5. Drive-in movies

The Portland Expo Center will revive the drive-in movie with a modern twist, with sound accessible via FM signal, along with outdoor speakers for bicyclists and pedestrians. The PDX Drive-In Movie Spectacular will kick off with a screening of “Twister” on Aug. 24, followed by “Psycho” on Aug. 25. The movie series continues through Aug. 28. There also will be car clubs, activities, music, short films, food vendors and a beer garden. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with music at 7 p.m., at the Portland Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Drive, Portland. Space will be limited, with tickets at $13 to $15 per car, and $5 for bicycles and pedestrians. www.expodrive-in.com
