Ridgefield – Due to new weight restrictions on the Gee Creek Bridge, heavy trucks that use Pioneer Street (state Highway 501) will need to take alternate routes.
This week the Washington Department of Transportation will install signs detailing the new limits that affect single-unit vehicles between North Reiman Road and South Gee Creek Loop.
The new truck restrictions apply as follows:
• Three axles or less are limited to 25 tons;
• Four axles are limited to 27 tons;
• Five and six axles are limited to 28 tons;
• Seven axles are limited to 29 tons.
Single-unit vehicles carrying more weight than the posted limits will need to use different routes.
According to WSDOT, the bridge is still open and safe for vehicle traffic, but the weight restriction is needed to reduce stress to the support structure until the bridge can be repaired.
