A fire heavily damaged a house Friday evening east of Washougal.
The fire was reported at 7:17 p.m. at a house at 40806 S.E. Washougal River Road, according to dispatch records.
Firefighters from East County Fire & Rescue en route radioed in that they could see a plume of black smoke rising from the area. The plume was visible over a wide area and prompted a number of calls to emergency dispatchers.
Crews arriving on scene found the 1,600-square-foot ranch style house fully ablaze and took a defensive approach to the fire, staying outside the structure and working to protect a propane tank and an outbuilding on the property, according to emergency radio traffic.
The Clark County Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to investigate.
