Weather Eye: Heading out to the fair? Be prepared for some warm weather

It was bound to happen, a little hot weather for the Clark County Fair. We had a few pleasant days, a couple cloudy drippy days and now to round out the event, some hot weather today through Sunday.

I will clarify this to say about 90 degrees today and Friday, 85 to 90 Saturday and 80 to 85 Sunday. Plan your attendance accordingly. If you are heading to the beach, a warm day in the 70- to 80-degree range today and Friday and then cooler over the weekend, and probably morning low clouds, but still pleasant in the 65- to 70-degree range.

With clear skies and mild nighttime conditions, it will be excellent for viewing the Perseid meteors. Find an area away from the city lights if possible, but if you can’t you should still see some racing across the sky most anywhere in Clark County.

The persistent clouds Wednesday broke up in the early afternoon. The official rainfall for Vancouver from the recent low pressure system was only .13 of an inch. That brought us up to just about normal so far this month. With no rain in sight the next week or so we’ll slide off on the rainfall statistic.

The heat will help get us back to the average mean temperature for the month, which was running 3.8 degrees below normal as of Wednesday.

I finally heard my first crickets this week and I just had to double-check their accuracy with the temperature. Count the number of chirps in 15 seconds then add 40 to that and you get the temperature. My thermometer read 66 degrees and one cricket said 66 degrees and the other 65.
