Summer Social planned to celebrate local food

Vancouver – Clark County Grown’s Seasonal Social is hosting an event to discuss farmland conservation, eat chef-prepared meals and listen to music and learn about local food.

The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Foley Community Orchard, 12018 N.W. 21st Ave., Vancouver.

At 6 p.m., Tim Trohimovich, director of planning and law at Futurewise, will discuss statewide efforts to conserve farmland and give an update on the 2016 Clark County Comprehensive Plan.

Clark County farmers will discuss the financial dynamics of farming in an urbanizing county.

At 7 p.m., a menu of small plate appetizers highlighting Clark County-grown foods will be prepared by local chefs and available for $6 each. There will also be a tasting table of local fruits and vegetables.

There will also be a cider press available for use. There will be a seed swap table, kids games and farmers exhibits.
