Washougal — Three incoming Washougal High School seniors graduated from the Washington Aerospace Scholars program on July 16.

Rory Csanky, Mitchell Leon and Matt Hickey went through the two-phase program designed for students interested in pursuing degrees in a science, technology, engineering and math field.

The first phase, which had around 300 students, is a five-month distance learning course created in partnership with NASA and the University of Washington.

It provided students the opportunity to earn five college credits. About 160 students were accepted into the second phase of the program, which is a six-day residency based at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, where students plan a human mission to Mars.

Students were accepted into Phase Two based on their scores on the Phase One lessons and completion of all Phase One material.
