VANCOUVER – Patriot Guard Riders will escort a motorcade transporting the remains of U.S. Army Pfc. William Butz back home to Vancouver today. Butz was killed in 1950 during the Korean War.

The motorcade will transport the remains from Portland International Airport to Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E. 12th St. The motorcade is expected to arrive at the funeral home at about 12:30 or 1 p.m.

Butz’s remains were found in an unmarked grave and North Korean officials returned them to American hands in 1954. They were identified in April at a military MIA center in Hawaii.

Butz will be buried with full military honors at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 N.E. 112th Ave., Vancouver, in the Arlington West section.

The public is invited to attend the graveside service, family members said.

People wishing to pay their respects to the Vancouver soldier can visit Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E. 12th St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
