Elections office: About 24K ballots left to count in primary

Results unlikely to change some key races, but could decide 17th Legislative District results

There are another 23,732 ballots left to count at the Clark County Elections Office, officials said this morning.

That would bring overall voter turnout in this year’s Primary Election up to about 30.05 percent – right about what Auditor Greg Kimsey was projecting for overall voter turnout in Clark County.

The new ballots are unlikely to make significant changes many of the results in last night’s key races. Clark County Councilor David Madore lost his race to Democrat Tanisha Harris and Republican John Blom, taking 22.55 percent of the votes.

Republican Jennifer McDaniel is also unlikely to surpass Republican Eileen Quiring to score a spot in the top two for Clark County council District 4. McDaniel received 26.52 percent of the votes, well behind Quiring and Democrat Roman Battan.

But new results could shift the results for 17th Legislative District Pos. 1 Representative. Don Orange, a Democrat, was trailing Independent Democrat Sam Kim by only a few hundred votes for the second place spot. Republican Vicki Kraft holds a comfortable first place lead in that race with 31.91 percent of the votes.

New results will be released this afternoon. Visit Columbian.com for updated results later today.
