The Mount Pleasant School District’s maintenance and operations levy was passing by a slim margin of four votes Tuesday night.

According to preliminary results, 26 people favored the levy while 22 voters opposed it. More ballots in the vote-by-mail election could still trickle in to elections officials in the next few days.

The district’s maintenance and operations levy would pay for educational programs, facilities and maintenance.

The small school east of Washougal has four teachers offering kindergarten to seventh grade, and had 49 students enrolled at the state’s last count.

The three-year levy would raise $155,000 per year for the district, starting at a rate of about $3.53 per $1,000 of assessed property value in its first year, according to the district. In 2018, the expected rate is $3.48 per $1,000. In 2019, the expected rate is $3.43 per $1,000.

The district crosses Clark and Skamania county lines. The 3 votes cast in Clark County were all in favor of the levy.
