Weather Eye: April will end on a warm note; summer’s approach to begin

The last day of April will end on a warm and sunny note with clearing skies and sunshine after a few showers Friday. Highs will inch upward to 70 or so and then into the 80-85 degree range Sunday and Monday. Ah yes, summer is coming.

Today will be dry and a little warmer than Wednesday and a weakening cold front will slide through Friday with a few showers. Rainfall amounts will remain on the lighter side. The weak front Tuesday only dropped .02 of an inch of rain here in Salmon Creek.

Looking over the first couple of weeks into May it appears it will be fairly dry and warm. We may have to start doing some watering early again this year. The snow melt is fast and early, much like it was last year. The reservoirs look to be in decent shape but creeks and rivers will be at a low stage soon as the snow disappears.

I had a frost here in Salmon Creek. Many outlying urban areas did indeed drop to the freezing mark and below. A couple of weeks and many will be beyond the average last frost date. As we enter into May you will notice we begin to have more of a morning clouds and afternoon sunshine regime.

The showers of March and April become less frequent in May as we transition toward summer. Any rain we get is usually a steadier-type rainfall. We have received some real frog stranglers in May, however, as pesky upper-level lows have parked off the coast and kept a persistent drizzle over us. That always seems the case as we get closer to Rose Festival time.
