Weather Eye: Don’t expect the last few days of April to bring us much rain

The usual routine for writing this column is that I go over myriad weather charts and maps, read any emails or messages concerning our surrounding regional observations and put the words together.

Sometimes with active weather upon us, the pace of compiling and reporting is fast. I try to lace my usual bit of humor and prose into the paragraphs. Weather can be serious business at times, but I try to look at the lighter side — rainbows, the silver lining in the clouds — and old folklore.

There is always something to write about, as weather never stops occurring. With that in mind, picture me with my feet up, laptop in hand and a bright sunny window to look out. It is late Monday afternoon, and I watch the puffy white clouds drift by. The wind chimes on the back porch are playing a whimsical tune of some sort. The dogs are dozing in the sunshine through the window. It’s good this is not a busy weather day because I am way too comfortable.

There won’t be much rain the rest of April, maybe a tenth of an inch or less with chilly nights and seasonal temperatures during the day. We run a risk of showers tonight and maybe late Friday. It appears May will roll in as a lamb, but that doesn’t seem like the proper introduction. We’ll say May rolls in with a lazy, sunny day. Highs in the 70s, light winds. A taste of summer again.

Many folks planted warm-weather plants over the weekend in outside pots, and tomato plants. If you are in the outlying urban areas, remember we’re still prone to frosts. Be ready to cover those plants the next few weeks.
