A Portland man caught trying to solicit a 14-year-old girl for sex was sentenced Friday afternoon to 30 days in jail, and will be released with 66 days time served.

Jeffrey P. Snyder, 57, pleaded guilty March 23 to communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.

He was first charged in February after he communicated online with a person whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl, according to court documents. He actually corresponded with undercover police officers, who stated in court documents that Snyder initiated conversations that were sexual in nature, and arranged to meet the girl, though he did not go through with it.

On top of having to register as a sex offender, Snyder will be restricted from accessing the Internet or interacting with children except as permitted by corrections officials.
