Three people were injured Thursday in a chain-reaction crash on state Highway 500 in Vancouver, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred at 2:36 p.m. in stop-and-go eastbound traffic near Stapleton Avenue when a 1997 Isuzu commercial truck driven by Austin H. Roberts, 32, of Vancouver crashed into the rear of a 1997 Chevrolet stake bed truck driven by Esteban Villegas Vera, 33, of Vancouver, according to a WSP bulletin.

The force of the impact drove the truck into a third vehicle, a 2003 Ford E250 van driven by Gary C. Fields, 40, of Vancouver, the bulletin said.

All three men were injured. Roberts and Villegas Vera were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Their conditions were not available Thursday night.

Fields was injured but not transported, the bulletin said.

The WSP cited Roberts for following too closely. Drugs and alcohol did not play a factor in the crash, according to bulletin, and it said all three men were using safety restraints.
