Hough — Nonprofit Second Step Housing was awarded $5,000 by Gifts for Our Community for its Resident Sufficiency Program. Gifts for Our Community is a nonprofit organization that provides resources in the areas of human services, education and the arts. Second Step Housing works within the community to keep individuals from re-entering the systems of care and breaking the generational cycle of poverty. The goal of the Resident Sufficiency Program is to prepare households for long-term self-sufficiency, free from needing ongoing support. The average income of a Second Step Housing resident is less than $13,000 per year. Through the Residency Sufficiency Program, Second Step provides these individuals and families rent subsides, case management support services and information and referral to community resources that can improve their quality of life.
