Clark County sheriff’s deputies zapped a transient man and shot him with less-lethal ammunition after he allegedly harassed customers at a Hazel Dell convenience store and waved a knife at deputies, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies were called to the store, at 7301 N.E. Highway 99, around 6:20 p.m. upon receiving a report of an intoxicated man bothering customers there. Store employees wanted him removed from the business, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the man brandished a knife when deputies contacted him, and yelled at deputies to shoot him. The man, still carrying the knife, then walked away toward a nearby business complex, police said.

Other deputies arrived, and the man refused to comply when told to drop the knife, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies shot the man with a 40mm less-lethal round then shocked him with a Taser, police said.

The man, Todd A. Mott, 53, dropped the knife and was arrested, according to the sheriff’s office. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

The sheriff’s office said it would refer charges of trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia to the county prosecutor’s office.
