Camas — Staff and members of LaCamas Swim and Sport threw a surprise birthday party for their oldest member, one of their most beloved, Jack Buchholz, who turned 96 on April 10. Buchholz began going to the club eight years ago through the encouragement of friends after the passing of his wife. “It is a challenge every day to come to class,” he said. “You have to be committed to working out, especially at this age, but at any age, really. Regular exercise makes your life better. It rejuvenates you.” Buchholz said he makes sure to go three times a week. He starts out doing cardio, then attends a class before finishing with some weight training. Karen Evoniuk, SilverSneaker and Silver and Fit program advisor has been one of many impressed by Buchholz’s commitment and positivity. “He inspires us all,” Evoniuk said. “It is his attitude. He is always so positive and motivational.”
