A Wednesday afternoon fire destroyed a recreational vehicle at Lake Merwin Campers Hideaway north of Amboy. No one was injured, but Clark County Fire District 10 Chief Gordon Brooks said the RV was a total loss.

“We’re looking at a frame and some aluminum,” he said from the scene.

Firefighters were dispatched to the private campground, at 24706 N.E. Columbia Tie Road, around 3:45 p.m. Brooks said the campground is often used as a weekend spot for members, and the RV’s occupants weren’t there at the time of the fire.

The vehicle was burning heavily by the time firefighters got the call, Brooks said. Firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading into the surrounding underbrush, Brooks said, and beyond some scorched trees, the fire was limited to the RV.

What caused the fire hasn’t been determined, and the county fire marshal’s office is investigating.
