Battle Ground — The city of Battle Ground’s Complete Streets policy, adopted in 2015 to formalize the city’s commitment to plan, design and construct a transportation system that is beneficial to individuals and the community overall, has been named one of the nation’s best. The national organization Smart Growth America ranked 82 Complete Streets policies adopted by cities across the nation in 2015, and Battle Ground’s policy came in as the 10th-best in the nation. It is also the first Complete Streets policy adopted in Southwest Washington. Multi-modal transportation and connectivity are the key elements of Battle Ground’s policy. It supports the use of sidewalks, shared-use paths, bicycle lanes and accessible curb ramps within a larger transportation system. “Safe and efficient travel is essential to the livability of our community,” said Philip Johnson, mayor of Battle Ground. “We can achieve this in a fiscally responsible manner as we grow and make improvements.”
