The Clark County Board of Health will recognize the winners of the 2016 Public Health Community Award this month.
The ceremony is 8:30 a.m. April 27 in the sixth-floor hearing room at the county Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver.
Joan Caley, a registered nurse and professor of nursing, will be honored for her longtime dedication to promoting public health, according to a news release from Clark County Public Health. Caley has served on the Clark County Public Health Advisory Council since its formation in 2003. She’s also involved with the Council for the Homeless, Vancouver Housing Authority and Bridgeview Housing.
The Prevent! Coalition will also be recognized. Prevent! is a group of more than 300 community members who donate their time to prevent youth substance abuse by providing education and resources, supporting healthy community-based activities and facilitating networking across community sectors.
Prevent! has influenced local policy decisions surrounding vaping and drug paraphernalia and is working on a campaign to keep marijuana products out of youth’s hands.
