Law enforcement from three agencies helped stop and arrest a Vancouver man after a high-speed pursuit early Monday.
About 3:15 a.m., a State Patrol trooper spotted a green 1998 Honda Civic four-door traveling north on Northeast Highway 99 near Northeast 78th Street, according to Clark County Sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Neiman.
Realizing the Honda had been reported as stolen, the trooper attempted to stop the driver. He pursued it northbound but lost sight of the car, Neiman said.
Ten minutes later, sheriff’s Deputy Sean Boyle saw the car traveling east on Northeast 219th Street west of Battle Ground, Neiman said.
Boyle’s radar showed the vehicle was traveling 102 mph in a 40 mph zone. The driver raced through downtown Battle Ground, running red lights, Neiman said.
A Battle Ground police officer set up a spike strip on Main Street and shredded the Honda’s tires. The driver continued east, out of town, with smoking flat tires, Neiman said.
The driver continued to turn south and east until the driver lost control and crashed at Northeast 212th Avenue and Northeast Risto Road, Neiman said.
The driver, identified as Fulgencio Adam Maestas, 41, of Vancouver was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Maestas was taken to a local hospital and not to the jail, but the case will be referred to the prosecuting attorney’s office for charges, said Trooper Will Finn.
