Clark College will celebrate its 11th Sakura Festival at 1 p.m. Thursday. Community members are invited to gather under the cherry blossoms to celebrate a legacy of international friendship and learning.

• 1 p.m.: Under the cherry trees in the Royce Pollard Friendship Garden, there will be a ceremony with guest speakers, honored guests from Japan, and music.

• 2 p.m.: Gaiser Student Center: Dance performed by Clark College’s Japanese Club, performance by Portland Taiko Drum Group along with table displays and refreshments.

More than 25 years ago, the city of Vancouver received a gift of friendship: 100 Shirofugen cherry trees. They were planted at Clark College, creating an enduring reminder of the bonds between Vancouver and Japan. In 1995, Vancouver established a sister-city relationship with Joyo, Japan.
