Note: Vancouver hiker Jeff Garmire is hiking the Appalachian Trail in his quest to complete a Calendar Year Triple Crown, the name given to walking the Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide trails in a calendar year. Garmire started in early February in Georgia and has been battling brutal weather in Vermont.

He passed through Hanover, N.H., Tuesday afternoon en route to Glencliff, N.H., (trail mile 1,790) to pick up a resupply box of food. Then he enters the White Mountains, which include several passes in 4,000- to 6,000-foot elevation range and likely lots of snow. On the good side, the weather reports calls for no new rain or snow and temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

Once through the White Mountains, Garmire, 25, will have about 300 miles to the northern terminus of the trail in Maine.

He plans to start the Pacific Crest Trail at the Mexican border in early May.

Garmire’s daily blog posts can be found online at http://freeoutside.com.
