Superintendent hired for School for the Blind

Gov. Jay Inslee announced that Scott McCallum will become superintendent of the Washington State School for the Blind in Vancouver beginning June 1.

Superintendent Dean Stenehjem is retiring after 26 years at the helm of the state school.

McCallum has 17 years of experience working on behalf of students in Oregon who are blind or visually impaired. Most recently he was the administrator for the Blind and Visually Impaired Student Fund for the state of Oregon. He also worked as an itinerant teacher and orientation and mobility specialist with blind or visually impaired students.

McCallum has a master’s degree in orientation and mobility from Pennsylvania College of Optometry and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from University of North Dakota.
