Registration for Vancouver Public Schools students entering kindergarten in the 2016-2017 school year began Monday. Any child who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 is eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall. Full-day kindergarten is offered at all Vancouver elementary schools.

Parents can find out which school their child will attend by referencing the district’s online boundary map at http://vansd.org/boundary-map or calling the elementary education office, 360-313-1010 or communications office, 360-313-1230.

To register their child for kindergarten, parents should bring proof of their child’s birth date, immunization records and emergency contact information to their neighborhood school. School offices are open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration can take up to one hour.

Parents also may apply for their child to attend one of the district’s language programs: Spanish/English dual language (http://vansd.org/dual-language-program), Mandarin immersion (http://vansd.org/mandarin-immersion-program) or Spanish immersion (http://vansd.org/spanish-immersion).

Registered students and their families will be invited to visit their elementary school, meet teachers and learn more about kindergarten. Visitations take place from mid-May to early June and last about one hour.

Parents can get the dates and time of kindergarten visits with their child’s school.
