WASHOUGAL — As the Washougal School District moves forward with building three new schools, all site plans and environmental reviews have been approved, and the public comment and appeal process has been completed.

The sites for constructing a new elementary school and replacing Jemtegaard Middle School are within the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area, which required extra planning.

The community can view school floor plans, see elevation drawings and hear about the design process from architects and district staff at an open house from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 28 at Washougal High School, 1201 39th St.

Groundbreaking ceremonies are being planned for later this spring. Site work will begin this summer.
