Weather Eye: Clouds, showers return, but weekend sun, warmth await

Some like it hot and some like it not. For those who do not, I have a great forecast for you. Clouds and showers are back today as a weak weather system moves inland. This will open the door for a stronger system Wednesday.

The Wednesday weather-maker may hold off until later in the day, with most of the rain falling in the overnight hours. Snow levels drop with this one with 4 to 6 inches of snow likely for elevations down to pass levels. Good news for the snowpack: a little added flavor to keep things nice and white.

Did you see Mount St. Helens on Monday afternoon? Nice and white, but you could see melting taking place on the lower slopes heading upward. Warm days last week really got the snow melt going, but it will slow down for a few days.

The weekend presents a return to sunny, warm weather with highs in the 70s. Next week will be typical April, with sunshine and a chance of bouts of unsettled weather.

I was up north the past few days, and tree foliage is a few days behind us due to cooler and slightly wetter weather. One can see that as one travels I-5 north, but that is to be expected.

Weather observer Roland Derksen in Vancouver, B.C., had this to say in an email to me about our hot weather last week: “Boy, is it summer already? Just kidding, but your temperatures this past week have really been something. Not quite so hot here, just comfortably warm. I had a record for the date on April 8th at 74 degrees. I have .39 inches of an inch of rain for the month compared to just .05 of an inch in your Vancouver.”
