A motorcyclist who crashed while fleeing police continued the flight on foot despite suffering significant injuries, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Officers eventually arrested John H. Weber, 40, of Vancouver. He had been spotted by officers earlier, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said, driving a motorcycle at a high speed at about 9 p.m. Sunday on Southeast McGillivray Boulevard near Chkalov Drive.

An officer attempted to pull the man over, but the motorcyclist ran the light at Southeast Seventh Street and continued through the Mill Plain Boulevard intersection, Kapp said.

The officer discontinued the pursuit, last spotting the rider heading north on Northeast 112th Avenue near Ninth Street, Kapp said.

A short time later, officers were dispatched to a motorcycle crash in the 11900 block of Northeast 18th Street, where witnesses told arriving officers that the rider had crashed and taken off on foot heading south, Kapp said.

Officers set up a containment area, and a police dog tracked the rider, locating Weber in some trees near the 1600 block of Northeast 121st Avenue, Kapp said.

Weber was taken to a hospital for treatment of significant injuries sustained in the crash, Kapp said. When he was discharged, he was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of eluding a police officer, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and a misdemeanor warrant.
