We set two high-temperature records last week — 87 degrees on Thursday and 83 on Friday. I thought we might have a three-day sweep, but a cold air mass in the overnight and early-morning hours Wednesday held highs much cooler than forecast.
I thought it would be close to 80 degrees with east winds. The winds were late in arriving in the Vancouver area, and lows in the 20s and 30s in Clark County gave the rising sun some tough competition.
There was frost on rooftops and other surfaces in Salmon Creek early Wednesday with a low of 32. Lows in outlying areas were in the upper 20s, but most of Vancouver proper remained in the mid- to upper 30s. We don’t need that nipping chill for those tender plants.
Our normal high for April 10 is 62 degrees, the low 42, so we were really in record territory last week. The 87 degrees was the warmest for so early in the year. We probably won’t see that again for decades.
